VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED AGAIN FOR THE NAIA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL  NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

SIOUX CITY WILL HOST THE COMPETITION AGAIN IN LATE NOVEMBER AT THE TYSON EVENTS CENTER. SPOKESMAN DAVID HARRIS SAYS THE VOLUNTEERS PERFORM A VARIETY OF DUTIES:



AROUND 200 VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO HELP WITH THE EVENT THAT SIOUX CITY HAS HOSTED SINCE 2008. YOU CAN SIGN UP TO HELP ONLINE AT VISIT SIOUX CITY-DOT-ORG.

The fifth annual Siouxland Missouri River Clean-Up  is scheduled for this Saturday, and it will have a Halloween theme.

There will be a special surprise for costume-wearing participants. Volunteers will be picking up trash and debris along the walking paths, storm water outfalls and parks on both sides of the river.

A bus will take volunteers to the Nebraska side and return them to the Sioux City side for lunch and a tour of the educational displays provided by the City of Sioux City, local business and organizations.

Cash prizes will be given to the school organizations that recruit the most volunteers. You may register at Sergeant Floyd Welcome Center Picnic Shelter from 8:30 to 9:00 A.M. Saturday.

Parking is available at the Sioux City boat ramp or in front of the Sergeant Floyd Welcome Center.

THIRTEEN MEMBERS OF THE 185TH AIR REFUELING WING WERE WELCOMED BACK TO SIOUX CITY WEDNESDAY FROM A MISSION IN SOUTHEAST ASIA.

THE GUARD MEMBERS HAD SERVED THERE FOR THE PAST SIX MONTHS AFTER BEING DEPLOYED IN JANUARY.

COLONEL GREG HAPGOOD, SPOKESMAN WITH THE IOWA NATIONAL GUARD, SAYS WHILE  THAT MISSION IS OVER, OTHER IOWA GUARD UNIT MEMBERS CONTINUE TO SERVE OVERSEAS:



HAPGOOD SAYS GUARD UNITS AROUND THE STATE WILL CONTINUE SERVING MISSIONS DEPENDING ON THE NEED:



COLONEL HAPGOOD WAS IN DES MOINES WHERE 30 MEMBERS OF THE 32ND FIGHTER WING ALSO RETURNED HOME TODAY FROM A DIFFERENT MISSION IN SOUTHWEST ASIA.

SIOUX CITY FIREFIGHTERS RESPONDED TO A HOUSE FIRE TUESDAY EVENING AROUND 7PM IN THE 1400 BLOCK OF 23RD STREET.

INVESTIGATORS SAY THE FIRE STARTED IN THE BATHROOM OF THE HOME. AN ELECTRICAL WIRING ISSUE IS BEING BLAMED FOR CAUSING THAT FIRE.

DAMAGE WAS DESCRIBED AS MINOR.
