The former University of Nebraska women's basketball player charged with faking a hate-crime attack wants her trial to be moved out of the Lincoln area.

An attorney for 34-year-old Charlie Rogers, formerly of South Sioux City, has asked Lancaster County Judge Gale Pokorny to move her trial to a different venue.

Attorney Brett McArthur says there's "a substantial risk" jurors would be tainted by publicity that has saturated the community. Judge Pokorny has not yet ruled on the request.

Rogers is charged with making a false report for telling police in July that three masked men broke into her home, assaulted her and carved derogatory words in her arms and abdomen.

She has pleaded not guilty and maintains her innocence, insisting the attack happened.

The NAIA Volleyball Championship tournament returns to the Tyson Events Center for the 5th year starting November 27th through December 1st. The top 24 women's volleyball teams in the NAIA compete for the national title, including the host team Morningside Mustangs.

City spokesman David Harris says a full week of activity begins next Sunday:



There is also the annual  NAIA Banquet of Champions on Monday, November 26th at 5:30pm with tickets available to the public at $30 each.

The teams will be placed into six pools and will compete in round-robin pool play  with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the single-elimination bracket starting November 30th.

The championship match will take place on December 1st at 8pm at the Tyson Events Center. Tickets are now on sale for the tournament at the Tyson Events Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets

A WEEKEND SHOOTING IN DOWNTOWN SIOUX CITY RESULTED IN A WOMAN BEING SHOT IN THE CHEST.

SIOUX CITY POLICE RESPONDED TO AN INCIDENT EARLY SUNDAY MORNING AT MAC BEHRS AT 1201 4TH STREET.

UPON ARRIVAL, A FEMALE VICTIM WAS LOCATED THAT HAD SUFFERED A GUNSHOT WOUND TO THE CHEST.

SHE WAS TRANSPORTED TO MERCY MEDICAL CENTER, HER CONDITION AND IDENTITY ARE BEING WITHHELD AT THIS TIME.

24 YEAR OLD SOLOMAN HARRIS OF SIOUX CITY WAS ARRESTED AT THE SCENE FOR ASSAULT WHILE PARTICIPATING IN A FELONY, WILLFUL INJURY, INTIMIDATION WITH A DANGEROUS WEAPON AND RECKLESS USE OF A FIREARM.
