The future of Whittier Elementary School will be determined by the Sioux City School Board at their meeting tonight. The board will vote on whether or not to close the aging elementary school in Morningside.
If the board decides to close the 111 year old school, many of their current students would attend the new Washington Elementary School in 2015. That school is currently under construction at Bushnell and South Martha streets.
The only older building currently in use by the school district is Bryant Elementary on the city's northside. The meeting is set to begin at 6pm at the Education Service Center located downtown at 627 4th Street.
