Siouxland donors helped the Salvation Army of Siouxland exceed their Red Kettle campaign goal for this past Christmas season.

Donations totalled $189,148, exceeding the campaign goal of $178,500 by 6%. The campaign began on November 11th and ended on Friday, January 6th.

Captain Von R. Vandiver, the Commanding Officer of Siouxland's Salvation Army says the weather helped - the first time in many years they did not lose any days at the kettles due to snow or below zero temperatures.

He says the generous people of Siouxland did not forget those in need as they made preparations to celebrate Christmas and the holidays.

JURY SELECTION STARTS TODAY IN THE DRUG TRIAL OF A SIOUX CITY MAN WHO IS SEPARATELY CHARGED IN A FATAL ASSAULT OF  IN OCTOBER OF 2010.

BRADLEY GREGG FACES FIVE CHARGES IN THE DRUG TRIAL INCLUDING DISTRIBUTING DRUGS NEAR A SCHOOL, USING A MINOR IN A DRUG TRADE, AND WEAPONS POSSESSION.

HE WILL STAND TRIAL LATER THIS SPRING ON INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER AND ASSAULT CHARGES  IN THE DEATH OF JOE MCDONALD OF IDA GROVE.

IOWA COURTS ONLINE INCORRECTLY HAD THE SECOND MANSLAUGHTER TRIAL LISTED AS STARTING JANUARY 10TH.

Northeast Community College has chosen an experienced administrator for its next president.

Northeast's board chose Michael Chipps after he visited campus for an interview on Friday.

Chipps has led Mid-Plains Community College since 2003. Before that, Chipps led North Platte Community College after holding a variety of positions at Central Community College.

Northeast's board president Steve Anderson says Chipps is a good fit because of his love of the state and his passion for community colleges.

Chipps will start his new job this summer. The Nebraska college's main campus is in Norfolk and has
education centers in South Sioux City, O'Neill and West Point.
