South Dakota officials have now closed Interstate 90 from Exit 191 at Murdo to the west effective immediately.
With this closure, I-90 is closed from Murdo to the Wyoming border. That segment of the interstate will remain closed until storm conditions improve and crews are able to clear the roadway.
An early autumn blizzard has buried western South Dakota, dropping 30 inches near Lead, and over a foot of snow at Rapid City.
The state Transportation Department is recommending no travel on western South Dakota roads.
The National Weather Service says up to two feet of snow is expected across the Black Hills, with winds gusting to 70 mph.
Up to three feet is possible in the northern Black Hills.
