A Sioux City man has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for robbing a Heritage Bank branch last November.
27-year-old Johnnie Hawkins Jr. was sentenced in Federal court Monday on one count of bank robbery.
Hawkins had pleaded guilty in March as part of a deal that dropped several firearms charges.
Prosecutors say Hawkins displayed a semi-automatic handgun as he confronted an employee who was opening the bank.
Hawkins fled with nearly $6,000, which was later recovered.
He is being held in the United States Marshal's custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
