Former South Dakota Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin says she expects to decide soon whether to run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by retiring Democrat Tim Johnson.
The 42 year old Herseth Sandlin says she's seriously considering a run, and is being encouraged by both state and national Democrats. She served in the U.S. House from 2004 through 2011.
The 66-year-old Johnson announced last month that he will retire next year at the end of his third Senate term.
Former Governor Mike Rounds is the only announced Republican candidate for Johnson's seat.
