April is autism awareness month and local institutions are partnering with the newly opened Pier Center for Autism to help raise awareness.
The center has formed a partnership with Briar Cliff University to increase services for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families by filling shortages of board-certified behavior analysts in Siouxland and the surrounding area.
Dr. Paul Olson heads Briar Cliff's behavioral sciences department, which is launching a program this summer to train applied behavior analysts:
Dr. Olson says autism affects everyone in the community in some way:
The clock tower at City Hall will be illuminated in blue on Wednesday evening and the main entrance to the Pier Center at 709 Iowa Street will display blue lighting during the month.
