A Storm Lake woman has been charged with child endangerment after her three year old daughter had to have a finger partially amputated.
Storm Lake Police say the girl was brought to the emergency room last Thursday with a tightly constricted rubber band around a finger.
Investigators determined that the child's mother had allegedly placed the rubber band with a piece of tissue around the child's finger several days prior to cover a hang nail injury.
Police say the blood flow was constricted for such an extended period of time that the finger became mummified and the rubber band sank into the bone. Signs of gangrene were also present.
A surgical team had to amputate a portion of the child's finger. Police investigators allege the mother placed the rubber band on the child's finger and did not check the finger for at least six days prior to taking the child to the emergency room.
30 year old Kaylyn Khamtan is charged with Child Endangerment Causing Serious Injury, a class C felony.
She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $10,000.00 cash bond.
