KSCJ News and Powell Broadcasting are proud to announce we are switching our national news affiliation to CBS as of Monday, July 30th. The CBS news organization has a storied history in journalism beginning with Edward R. Murrow and continuing with Walter Cronkite, Mike Wallace and other great broadcasters.
One of the main reasons for the switch to CBS from ABC Radio News was listener input and feedback. Many of our listeners were outraged with ABC’s coverage of BPI and their meat manufacturing method.
Powell Broadcasting General Manager Dennis Bullock says “We value our listener’s opinions regarding our programming. ABC’s reports hurt our community and helped lead to a loss of jobs at BPI. Many of our listeners were outraged by the stories on ABC and that helped us reach the decision to switch to CBS.”
News Director Woody Gottburg says ABC’s latest error in linking the Tea Party to the “Dark Knight” movie massacre in Colorado shows the switch to CBS is the right move. Several listeners also reacted to that error. He says CBS will also have more of an emphasis on “hard news” rather than entertainment based national newscasts.
KSCJ and CBS had a long previous affiliation. Program Director Justin Barker says the timing is right to renew that relationship with the most respected radio news organization in the country.
Talk Radio 1360 KSCJ is proud to be a part of the Powell Broadcasting family of stations; an independently owned and operated broadcast group.
