Tri state school districts will continue to use Beef Products Incorporated finely lean textured beef in school lunches after a public uproar earlier this year.
But the U.S. Department of Agriculture says those are the only states participating in its National School Lunch Program that have decided to do so.
Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota were the only states who chose to order ground beef containing L-T-F-B. The product has been used for decades and it's safe to eat.
It nevertheless became the center of national attention after a New York Times article on the safety of meat processing methods.
As of May 18, the agency says other states ordered more than 20 million pounds of ground beef products that don't contain lean finely textured beef.
Orders for beef from the Dakota Dunes company, came to about 1 million pounds.
