Chuck Hassebrook's Democratic campaign for a Nebraska U.S. Senate seat was short lived.
The University of Nebraska Regent dropped out of the race for Ben Nelson's U.S. Senate seat and is endorsing fellow Democrat Bob Kerrey.
Kerrey is a former U.S. Senator and Nebraska Governor. Hassebrook announced his departure at aa joint news conference with Kerrey.
Hassebrook had entered the race last month, days after Kerrey initially announced he wouldn't seek the Senate seat.
Hassebrook also gave up his chance for re-election to the regent's seat he's held for nearly 18 years.
Three weeks later, Kerrey changed his mind and opted to run for Senate.
