SIOUX CITY’S ARGOSY RIVERBOAT CASINO WILL STAY OPEN FOR AT LEAST A FEW MORE DAYS.

JUDGE ELIZA OVRUM EXTENDED THE STAY UNTIL AT LEAST EARLY NEXT WEEK AT A HEARING THURSDAY MORNING IN POLK COUNTY DISTRICT COURT IN DES MOINES.

JUDGE OVRUM SAYS SHE HAS THOUSANDS OF PAGES TO READ THROUGH SUBMITTED BY VARIOUS ATTORNEYS BEFORE SHE WILL RULE ON IF THE CASINO OPERATED BY PENN NATIONAL GAMING WILL REMAIN OPEN.

BRIAN OHORILKO, ADMINISTRATOR OF THE IOWA RACING AND GAMING COMMISSION THAT ORDERED THE ARGOSY TO CLOSE JULY 1ST, SAYS HE UNDERSTANDS THE JUDGE’S EXTENSION OF THE STAY:

THE JUDGE HAD ISSUED HER FIRST TEMPORARY STAY LAST MONTH THAT ALLOWED THE ARGOSY TO REMAIN OPEN UNTIL JULY 10TH.

FOURTEEN ATTORNEYS REPRESENTING THE INVOLVED PARTIES WERE IN THE COURTROOM FOR THURSDAY’S HEARING.

SIOUX CITY’S NEW HARD ROCK CASINO, WHICH IS PARTNERED WITH THE ARGOSY’S FORMER NON-PROFIT LICENSE HOLDER, MISSOURI RIVER HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT, WILL OPEN AUGUST 1ST.
