THE SIOUX CITY SCHOOL BOARD WILL VOTE TONIGHT ON THE NAME OF THE NEW SCHOOL BEING CONSTRUCTED TO REPLACE THE FORMER WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY BUILDING.

STUDENTS FROM WASHINGTON AND WHITTIER ELEMENTARIES CAST BALLOTS ON FOUR POSSIBLE NAMES FOR THE SCHOOL, INCLUDING DISCOVERY, JOURNEY, LEWIS AND MORNINGSIDE.

THE STUDENTS HAVE CHOSEN MORNINGSIDE BUT THE SCHOOL BOARD HAS THE FINAL SAY FOR THE NEW BUILDING’S NAME.

THE SCHOOL IS BEING CONSTRUCTED AT THE SITE OF THE FORMER WASHINGTON BUILDING LOCATED AT SOUTH MARTHA AND BUSHNELL.

IT’S SCHEDULED TO OPEN IN AUGUST OF 2015, REPLACING WHITTIER AND THE NOW DEMOLISHED WASHINGTON BUILDINGS.

THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETS AT 6PM IN THE EDUCATION SERVICE CENTER AT 4TH AND JACKSON.
