SIOUX CITY’S ARGOSY RIVERBOAT CASINO HAS FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY.

MAYOR BOB SCOTT SAYS HE WAS INFORMED OF THE FILING THIS MORNING:

OC….MAIL YET. ;23

SCOTT SAYS THE FILING SHOWS THE ARGOSY SEEMS TO HAVE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS MORE IN ASSETS THAN LIABILITIES:

OC….THINK IT SAID. :12

THE MAYOR SAYS THE ARGOSY PAYS THE CITY MONTHLY RENT, BUT HE’S NOT SURE YET WHAT FINANCIAL COST THE BANKRUPTCY WOULD HAVE ON THE CITY:

OC….FIGURE THAT OUT. ;12

KAREN BAILEY, SPOKESPERSON FOR PENN NATIONAL GAMING, RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING IN PART: “THE ARGOSY HAS BEEN AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE SIOUX CITY COMMUNITY FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS.

THE IOWA RACING AND GAMING COMMISSION HAS ORDERED THE ARGOSY TO CLOSE JULY 1ST, WHICH WOULD DESTROY OUR BUSINESS AND THE PEOPLE WHO DEPEND UPON IT.

WE BELIEVE THE BANKRUPTCY WILL HELP TO PRESERVE ARGOSY’S BUSINESS WHILE THE COMPLEX LEGAL AND FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS OF IRGC’S DECISION ARE SORTED OUT.”
