A PLAN TO IMPROVE SECURITY AT THE WOODBURY COUNTY COURTHOUSE BY JULY 1ST HAS STALLED.

TWO WEEKS AGO THE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AND SHERIFF DAVE DREW DISCUSSED A PLAN WHICH INCLUDES PLACING A SECURITY SCANNER AT THE NORTH ENTRANCE OF THE COURTHOUSE AND STAFFING
A FULL TIME SERGEANT TO OVERSEE SECURITY WITH THREE PART-TIME POSITIONS ROTATED AMONG NINE STAFF MEMBERS.

BUT SUPERVISORS CHAIRMAN GEORGE BOYKIN SENT A LETTER TO DREW LAST WEEK STATING THE BOARD HAD CONCERNS ABOUT THE NEED FOR A FULL TIME PERSON.

SHERIFF DREW SAYS HE WAS CAUGHT BY SURPRISE BY THE BOARD’S LETTER WHEN HE RETURNED MONDAY FROM A WEEK’S VACATION:

OC….. CONTINUE TO HAVE. ;27

BOYKIN SAYS HE’S NOT CONVINCED THE FULL TIME SERGEANT IS A NECESSITY:

OC…OF THE PROGRAM. :16

DREW SAYS STATE CODE AND THE UNION CONTRACT MANDATES THAT A SUPERVISORY OFFICER OVERSEES THE RESERVE DEPUTIES THAT HANDLE SECURITY.

OC…..WORK HERE. :13

BOYKIN SAYS HE AND THE BOARD STILL WANT ANOTHER WEEK TO REVIEW THE PLAN.

OC…. OVER TIME. ;16

THE PLAN WILL LIKELY BE DISCUSSED AGAIN AT NEXT TUESDAY’S SUPERVISOR’S MEETING.
