THE SIOUX CITY COUNCIL HAS GIVEN FINAL PASSAGE TO A MEASURE THAT EXEMPTS SOME AGENCIES FROM RESTRICTIONS ON OWNING PIT BULLS IN THE CITY LIMITS.
THE AMENDMENT TO THE CITY ORDINANCE LETS THE CITY MANAGER ALLOW AN EXEMPTION TO A DESIGNATED AGENCY SO THEY MAY POSSESS, TRANSPORT OR SELL THE DOGS OTHERWISE RESTRICTED BY CITY CODE.
THE CHANGE WAS REQUESTED BY NOAH’S HOPE, AN ORGANIZATION WHICH RESCUES AND ADOPTS OUT DOGS.
MAYOR BOB SCOTT VOTED FOR THE CHANGE, BUT SAYS HE’S MORE CONCERNED FOR PUBLIC SAFETY:

A SPOKESPERSON FOR NOAH’S HOPE SAYS THEY WOULD NOT HARBOR THE DOGS IN THE CITY, BUT WOULD PLACE THEM UP FOR ADOPTION AT SPECIAL EVENTS.
THE COUNCIL APPROVED THE CHANGE 5-0.
