A STORM LAKE FIREFIGHTER WAS INJURED OVER THE WEEKEND WHILE BATTLING A BLAZE AT THE HILLSHIRE BRANDS TURKEY PROCESSING PLANT.

EMERGENCY CREWS WERE CALLED TO 315 VILAS ROAD SATURDAY NIGHT AT 7:15 AND FOUND HEAVY BLACK SMOKE AND FLAMES COMING FROM THE PLANT’S ROOF.

A ROUGHLY 50-FOOT BY 50-FOOT SECTION OF THE ROOF BURNT AND COLLAPSED INTO THE PLANT.

THREE ADDITIONAL FIRE DEPARTMENTS WERE CALLED AND OVER 50 FIREFIGHTERS BROUGHT THE FIRE UNDER CONTROL IN ABOUT THREE HOURS.

FIRE, SMOKE AND HEAT SEVERELY DAMAGED THE FACILITY, BUT THERE IS NO DAMAGE ESTIMATE AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

ONE STORM LAKE FIREFIGHTER SUSTAINED A SHOULDER INJURY, WAS TREATED AND RELEASED.

THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.
