SIOUX CITY IS THE ONLY ONE OF IOWA’S NINE MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREAS WHO HAD A DECREASE IN POPULATION OVER THE PAST YEAR.

THAT’S ACCORDING TO THE LATEST ESTIMATES FROM THE U.S. CENSUS BUREAU.

SIOUX CITY HAD A NET DECREASE OF 40 RESIDENTS BETWEEN JULY 1ST OF 2012 AND JULY 1ST OF 2013.

GARY KROB, COORDINATOR OF THE STATE DATA CENTER, SAYS IOWA SAW LITTLE OVERALL CHANGE IN POPULATION GROWTH:

TWENTY-NINE COUNTIES GAINED POPULATION, WHILE THE REMAINING 70, INCLUDING WOODBURY, ALL LOST NUMBERS;

WOODBURY COUNTY WAS DOWN 90 RESIDENTS IN THE PAST YEAR.

DALLAS COUNTY, JUST WEST OF POLK COUNTY AND DES MOINES, IS THE FASTEST GROWING COUNTY IN THE STATE WITH 12-POINT-NINE PERCENT GROWTH.

JOHNSON COUNTY HAD THE NEXT BEST GROWTH AT SIX-POINT-THREE PERCENT.

THE CENSUS BUREAU ESTIMATES THAT IOWA’S POPULATION IN 2013 WAS NEARLY 3.1 MILLION.
