AUTHORITIES HAVE RELEASED THE NAMES OF THE DRIVERS IN WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON’S MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH ON INTERSTATE 29 SOUTH OF THE SGT. BLUFF REST STOP NEAR MILE MARKER 138.

THE WOODBURY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS A NORTHBOUND PICKUP TRUCK DRIVEN BY 40 YEAR OLD MITCHELL SMITH OF SIOUX CITY CROSSED THE CENTER MEDIAN INTO THE SOUTHBOUND LANES WHERE IT STRUCK AN ONCOMING SEMI DRIVEN BY 68 YEAR OLD WILBUR BURMEISTER OF GLENWOOD.

THE PICKUP WAS THEN STRUCK BROADSIDE BY A SECOND SEMI DRIVEN BY 35 YEAR OLD JASON WEATHERTON OF BERESFORD, SOUTH DAKOTA.

SMITH AND HIS PASSENGER, 30 YEAR OLD APRIL WAYMAN OF SIOUX CITY, HAD TO BE EXTRICATED BY RESCUERS.

SMITH AND WAYMAN WERE TAKEN TO MERCY MEDICAL CENTER WITH INJURIES.

THEIR CONDITIONS ARE BEING WITHHELD BY FAMILY REQUEST.
