AN INVESTIGATION  BY STATE AUTHORITIES HAS DETERMINED THAT THE FATAL SHOOTING OF A SIOUX CITY MAN WANTED FOR MURDER BY A CITY POLICE OFFICER WAS JUSTIFIED.

FELIX NAVARRETE WAS SHOT AS HE TRIED TO ESCAPE OFFICERS BY GOING THROUGH THE SECOND STORY WINDOW OF A MORNINGSIDE APARTMENT ON JANUARY 28TH.

NAVARRETE WAS ARMED AND WAS WANTED FOR A DOUBLE SHOOTING ON THE CITY’S WESTSIDE THREE DAYS EARLIER.

THE REPORT BY SCOTT BROWN OF THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE STATES THAT THE OFFICER THAT FIRED THE SHOT WAS CONFRONTED WITH WHAT REASONABLY APPEARED TO BE DEADLY FORCE BEING USED AGAINST OTHER OFFICERS BY NAVARRETE.

SIOUX CITY POLICE CHIEF DOUG YOUNG SAYS HE APPRECIATES THE INVESTIGATION AND HARD WORK PUT INTO THE CASE BY THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION:

CHIEF YOUNG SAYS HE IS NOT RELEASING THE NAME OF THE OFFICER WHO FIRED THE SHOT BECAUSE OF THREATS AGAINST HIM RECEIVED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.

BROWN’S RULING SAYS THE SHOOTING WAS A JUSTIFIABLE HOMICIDE AND THAT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE NOW CONSIDERS THE MATTER CLOSED.
