THE SIOUX CITY COUNCIL CONTINUED ITS OPERATION BUDGET HEARINGS TUESDAY FOR THE NEXT FISCAL YEAR.

PUBLIC WORKS, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, TRANSIT AND PARKS AND RECREATION BUDGETS WERE DISCUSSED.

THE CITY IS ESTABLISHING PARKS AND RECREATION AS A SEPARATE DEPARTMENT FROM PUBLIC WORKS WITH ITS OWN DIRECTOR.

CITY MANAGER BOB PADMORE SAYS PARKS AND REC SHOULD BE A STAND ALONE DEPARTMENT:

PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR JADE DUNDAS SAYS AN ONGOING SERIES OF WATER MAIN BREAKS HAVE COST THE CITY SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS IN REPAIRS:

DUNDAS SAYS HE NEEDS MORE MONEY TO KEEP UP WITH REPAIRS TO THE WATERMAIN SYSTEM.

THE CITY MAY ALSO IMPLEMENT A HIRING FREEZE BECAUSE OF THE TIGHT BUDGET FOR THE COMING FISCAL YEAR.

THE COUNCIL WILL WRAP UP OPERATING BUDGET TALKS NEXT TUESDAY AND HAVE A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED BUDGET FEBRUARY 24TH.
